Hello there! I'm Beckie; welcome to my blog chronicling my adventures in the fine art of baking. A couple of years ago I went through what could be described as a fairly nasty break-up, and afterwards I suddenly found myself with a lot of time on my hands. So, looking for something to keep me busy when I wasn't working, and inspired by the Great British Bake Off, I turned to baking. Baking is something that I can rely on to distract and calm me from everyday life and the various traumas that crop up every now and then. I'll be honest, I am not terribly calm during the actual baking process, but the finished result is what usually has me grinning in absolute joy (although there are moments of wailing and self-remonstration when something doesn't go quite right). My baking renaissance has left my friends very happy indeed, which is quite possibly the best thing about it.
Here's just a little bit about myself:
- I have just finished my PhD, and am now attempting to take my first steps into the real world.
- As you might be able to tell from the above photo, I love dressing up and throw at least one fancy-dress party a year, usually for my birthday (themes have ranged from a Venetian Ball theme, to a Movies and TV theme, to a Bioshock Party, and most recently a wonderfully amusing Monty Python party).
- Whitby Gothic Festival is the absolute highlight of my year: I always go twice a year with my dearest friends.
- As well as baking, I love reading, playing the piano, spending time with my amazing group of friends, drinking tea, and watching Criminal Minds.
- I can natter on for hours, something that my wonderful friends dutifully put-up with.
Beckie.
